What is the goal and scope of the Civic Assembly?

The goal of the Assembly is to help Akron residents have better access to safe, affordable, and well-kept homes. That can mean a lot of things. So this Civic Assembly on Housing is focusing on three outcomes:

Enough homes for different people and stages of life

Having a sufficient and growing supply of housing within reach of folks across income spectrums and stages of life, supported by regulatory policies and zoning policies that enable and streamline development

More money for housing and neighborhoods

Flowing sufficient, diverse, and reliable investment into housing development and neighborhood infrastructure, with expanded financial support that enables property maintenance, strengthens the community, and delivers sustained development

Safe and well-maintained homes across the city

Maintaining a safe, high-quality housing stock where all housing units are consistently repaired or replaced, property owners have resources to maintain properties, property owners and occupants meet their responsibilities, and blighted structures are quickly addressed

This assembly is commissioned by the City of Akron, so the Assembly will focus on areas the City can directly influence or control, like zoning, code enforcement, public investment, land-use policy, permitting processes, and tenant–landlord regulation.
