Making Your Case
Deliberation isn’t debate, but it helps if you can explain your views clearly to your fellow Delegates.
Here’s a simple three-step method:
1. State your position.
Example: “I don’t like hiking in the woods.”
2. Support it.
Example: “When I was a kid, I got bitten by a snake on a hike and missed school for a week.”
Offer a reason for your position.
It might come from research or data you learned during the deliberation.
But you won’t always have every fact you wish you had, so the support you provide for your position may often be in the form of personal experiences.
3. Summarize it.
Example: “To this day, I don’t like hiking in the woods because I worry about being bit by a snake again.”
That final step matters. People don't always connect the dots, so be clear about what you believe and why.
State it. Support it. Summarize it.
Then stay open to new information.
That’s how you make your case and contribute to Collective Wisdom.
