You are Here (and Why it Matters)
Welcome!
As a Delegate to the Akron Civic Assembly on Housing, you’re here to help your community tackle a real problem.
You’re not here to watch experts argue, and you’re not here to vote for Team A or Team B.
You’re here to help achieve a Shared Goal that many people in the community have been actively working toward this goal for a long time:
For Akron residents to have greater access to safe, well-maintained, and affordable housing.
This Civic Assembly is aimed at bringing the whole community together – residents, leaders, and elected officials – to make progress that wouldn’t be possible otherwise.
You and the other Delegates in this Assembly represent the whole community. And your job is to learn what’s going on and listen closely.
Share your point of view clearly and challenge ideas respectfully.
That’s how you and your fellow delegates will work toward recommendations that most of the community can stand behind.
This isn’t about partisan politics. It’s about wise, well-informed decision making.
You don’t have to be perfect, or an expert, or a good public speaker.
You just have to show up.
Bring your life experience and your opinions into your conversations.
Be curious, be honest, be respectful.
